PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM

A Canadian province or territory has to nominate you to immigrate to Canada through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

THE PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM IS FOR APPLICANTS WHO:

  • Have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory

  • Want to live in that province

  • Want to become permanent residents of Canada.

The applicant is first selected by the province and is then processed by the Federal Government (IRCC). A provincial nomination enables the application to be processed faster and thus the applicant can come to Canada sooner. To be nominated by a province or territory, you must follow the instructions on their website and meet certain requirements.

Each province and territory have its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

  • Students
  • Business people
  • Skilled workers
  • Semi-skilled workers

PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM PROCESSING CRITERIA

Processing is similar to Express Entry with the additional steps of:

1. Creating a client profile in the particular province where the skills are in demand.

2. Client requires to pay the province PNP fees, which varies according to province.

Completing an online PNP profile or entering the pool does not guarantee that province will invite client to apply for permanent residence (PR).
